In the past 35 years, we’ve completed a wide range of design, construction and maintenance projects at numerous commercial and industrial sites across Saskatchewan, with projects ranging from office, retail and warehouse buildings to basic engineered construction camps, large design build potash mine expansion projects and new construction greenfield mine projects.

After 35 years, there are too many projects to name them all. However, here are some of our recent projects to demonstrate our capability and experience in many different industries. We focus on exceeding our client’s expectations and have an excellent track record of on time and on budget performance, with high attention to detail and constant communication through all phases of the project. All of our project managers, site managers and senior leaders are actively engaged in every project regardless of size, this hands-on approach at site ensures we maintain high-quality standards and your system will function as designed.

    ALVIN HAMILTON BUILDING REGINA RESTACK

    An extensive 10 floor renovation over 3 phases and 2 years in the Regina Government of Canada building. Upgrades to new LED lighting systems, distribution, security, fire alarm and data systems. This project required a high level of coordination,material staging and shift work to accommodate the tenant with minimal impact and disruption to their services.

    CALEB VILLAGE ASSISTED LIVING CONDOS

    100 unit condo projects in Kindersley, Humboldt, Tisdale, and Melville. High end units, complete commercial kitchen wiring, individual heating and a/c throughout each unit. Each project was approximately 10 months in duration, at a cost of $1.35M each for the electrical scope.

    FOND-DU-LAC FIRST NATION SOLAR PROJECT

    2 northern Saskatchewan schools, each with a 150kw grid tied system. Roof top installations using micro inverters for all panels, and tying back to new distribution panels for the collection of the power and tying to the grid. Very remote locations; fly in sites.
  • Flyer Electric Featured Electrical Projects - K+s Potash Fire Alarm and Security Systems

    K+S POTASH FIRE ALARM & SECURITY SYSTEMS

    Fire alarm and security systems installations throughout site including all site security access controls, CCTV systems, wireless communications, card reader systems(ongoing for the past year, not to be complete until late 2017). 15kv temporary power system installation for construction throughout the site this installation included the following: underground cable installations, connections of the mini-substations to feed 600v, construction and supply of power sheds (600v in-feed, 600v panels, transformers, 120/208v construction power panels and lights). Complete wiring of construction shop for one of the contractors on site as well as continued construction power support for the site. Current contract for ongoing site maintenance work.

    MOSAIC ESTERHAZY K2 NEW POTASH STORAGE AND RECLAIM BARN

    Mosaic Esterhazy K2 – new potash storage and reclaim barn. This was a very large project in which we were responsible for the complete design of all power and controls systems from scratch, engineering, and construction, as well as the commissioning. In addition to this, the project also incorporated the construction of a new cable tressell c/w 15kv pump house feeder cables, JB’s and splicing.
  • Flyer Electric Featured Electrical Projects - Pcs Cory Underground Mechanics Shop Relocation

    PCS CORY UNDERGROUND MECHANICS SHOP RELOCATION

    This project included the complete relocation of the 3 existing underground mechanic’s shops to this complete new area of the mine. All work was new and included all the electrical distribution equipment (15kv – 600v), small power throughout, approximately 500 fixtures, messenger, hoists, overhead cranes, hazardous location wiring and lighting, fire alarm systems, communications systems, wash bay c/w all equipment, etc. This project began in the summer of 2016, and was completed in December 2016 with the commissioning completed. Approximate value was $750k. The project was finished weeks ahead off schedule and well under budget.

    SASK POWER CHINOOK POWER STATION ADMIN BUILDING

    Complete electrical design build utilizing third party electrical engineering consulting services at the SaskPower Chinook Power Station. Design and installation of the lighting, distribution, fire alarm and data systems. Also included extensive cable tray systems to tie controls from the control room of the administration building to the main plant.

    SASK POWER ISLAND FALLS HYDRO STATION

    Fire Protection Upgrades – this project included the complete design, engineering, and construction of a new fire suppression and detection system through the site. Incorporated was multiple Victaulic Vortex hybrid water mist systems through the generators, transformers rooms, HPU’s, and wet sprinkler systems in many common areas. Detection and releasing duties were completed through multiple panels, all networked together to provide a modern fire detection system, including flame detectors, beam detectors, and Protectorwire systems throughout. The majority of the work was required to be completed during multiple shutdowns with strict completion dates and no lost production. This project carries a value of approximately $3M, and was started in January 2018 with completion scheduled for March 2019.
  • Flyer Electric Featured Electrical Projects - Virden Mb Waste Water & Sewage Treatment Facility

    VIRDEN MB WASTE WATER & SEWAGE TREATMENT FACILITY

    This project was for a complete new SBR building and major replacement of all existing treatment equipment for the town of Virden. This project included all major power, emergency backup generator, multiple MCCs, instrumentation, and controls required. Also included was demolition of the existing systems while keeping a critical systems operating for the duration. This project began in the spring of 2017 and is complete September of 2018. Approximate contract cost was $1.75M. This contract was controlled by Associated Engineering.

Construction of 140 man state of the art permanent camp, geothermal heat throughout, ICF construction, motor control, data, fire alarm systems, mill engineering maintenance electrical construction

Extensive work on this site as well, involved new propane farm installations, pump houses, massive freeze system expansion, surface and underground work, new maintenance office/ equipment shop maintenance facility and many other projects.

Complete site wide fire alarm system swap and upgrade all buildings to current fire code compliant systems, sapphire system, deluge and pre-action systems, commissioning work on the new calciner building and water treatment plant expansion project.

Underground substation renovation, large twin power feed project to double capacity of one section of the mine, cable tray replacement, surface heat trace projects, installation of many miles of cable and conduit to feed from the new 230kv substation to various points on site, many more projects have been completed successfully and are too numerous to list.

Work on this site was extensive from 2006-2014 continuous – all services from basic site services to the entire mill DCS system replacement, instrumentation, substations, fire alarm systems throughout the entire site, commissioning.

30,000 ft2 building, c/w offices throughout the second level, training rooms, workshops, oil storage rooms, battery storage rooms, server room, large mechanical room, and electrical rooms. 3 overhead cranes, cable tray system throughout, motor control centers, 5kv – 600v transformer, fibre optic communications throughout, data system, fire alarm system.

Upgrade of existing lighting to LED lighting over the ice surface of 4 rinks utilizing the SaskPower rebate program. Ice Arenas upgraded include Jack Staples, Murray Balfour, Clarence Mahon, and Jack Hamilton.

This project involved a large expansion on the existing WTP, including all filters, pumps, instrumentation, controls, and emergency power systems. Also included in this contract was installation of a new PLC c/w all programming required. The approximate cost of this project was $350,000.00. The contract controller was Associated Engineering.

This project consisted of the demolition and construction of a new automated SPS within the community. The work included all controls and automation, power, lighting, and emergency power generator. The approximate cost of this contract is $150,000.00. The project was controlled by Bullee Consulting.

Inspected and energized power to the site via generator systems after being decommissioned for over 10 years. There was much vandalism and copper theft, so this was a time consuming project.

This project involved a large expansion on the existing WTP and pumphouse building, including all filters, pumps, instrumentation, controls, and emergency power systems. The approximate cost of this project was $1.8M. The contract controller is Associated Engineering and ATAP. The project was kicked off in the fall of 2016 and completion in December 2017.

Water Treatment Plant expansions, Water Booster Pump Houses, Sewage Pumping Stations and remote well sites c/w radio communications.

This project was for a complete new treatment building for the First Nation. This project included all major power, emergency backup generator, MCC, instrumentation, and controls required. This project began in the fall of 2016 and is complete February of 2018. Approximate contract cost was $700k. This contract was controlled by JRC Engineering.

Pond Feeder Replacement project; included in this project was approximately 3.5km of 750mcm/3c 25kv Airguard cable and fibre optic cable to replace the existing aging cabling. This project was very complex, simply based on the fact that in approximately a 1km area we had 90 utility crossings to execute; the project was completed without any incidents. Also completed on this site, fire alarm detection systems, as well as Sapphire system and thermowire detection system installations.

Included in this project was approximately 3.5km of 750mcm/3c 25kv Airguard cable and fibre optic cable to replace the existing aging cabling. This project was very complex, simply based on the fact that in approximately a 1km area we had 90 utility crossings to execute; the project was completed without any incidents. Also completed on this site, fire alarm detection systems, as well as Sapphire system and thermowire detection system installations. This project was managed directly by Mosaic Belle Plaine.

Underground diesel bay construction consisting of a very large underground diesel mechanic’s bay for maintenance on underground equipment. This contract included 15kv sled connections, all lighting, small power, equipment connections, power distribution skids, overhead crane wiring, etc. (Nov 2014-Feb 2015). Also on this site we have completed fire alarm Sapphire system installations and storage barn conveyor fire detection.

Complete electrical installation of 100,000 ft2 building. All motor control and power wiring for the construction of the production areas. Many freezer and cooler systems, data system, fire alarm system, ongoing maintenance ever since the construction was completed.

Complete installation of all electrical, automation, controls, and emergency power systems for this new facility. This new facility is to service a new subdivision of the reserve, as well as the newly built school. Project kick off was in winter of 2015 and was completed in fall of 2016. Approximate value of this contract was $600K.

Underground electrical wiring for the replacement skip and shaft basement steel replacement; fire alarm system installations.

15kv cable tray replacement, fire alarm system c/w sapphire systems.

This project included all instrumentation and controls required to automatically monitor and control the city water filtering systems. It included demolition of the existing systems, and installation of all new cabling, tray, controls, instruments, and control platforms. This project began in the spring of 2016 and is scheduled for completion in spring of 2018. Approximate contract cost was $250,000.00. This contract was controlled by AECOM.

This project involved the upgrades of many SPS buildings throughout the city of Prince Albert. Included in the work was a large amount of instrumentation, controls, PLC systems installations and wiring, as well as emergency power systems throughout. Approximate duration of this work was 2.5 years and 8 stations. Approximate cost of this contract was $2M. This project was controlled by Bullee Consulting.

Renovation to the main and second floor of the Forensic Laboratory with installation of new low voltage lighting control systems, public address and sound masking systems. This was a staged renovation to accommodate tenant with minimal impact and disruption to their services

This project included 138kv power wiring to feed a new power transformer, 15kv cable duct form transformer to new switchgear. A VFD and all instrumentation and controls required to automatically monitor and control the transformer and pump drive. Instrumentation included for the monitoring of the new pump motor. Design and construction of support steel for cable duct. Grounding systems for all new equipment. This project began in the fall of 2015 and was operational in April of 2016. Approximate contract cost was $500,000.00. This contract was controlled by MPE Engineering.

We have completed many successful projects in the past for SaskPower as a subcontractor such as: Edam Switching Station Civil – all in ground grid, fence grounding, structure grounding, and testing of the grid (all cad-welding) - subcontract to Points Athabasca Contracting -Points North Substation Expansion – reworked ground grid and structure grounding (cad-welding)- subcontract to Points Athabasca Contracting -Security System Installations (cameras, motion detectors, door entry systems, all cabling) on the following Switching station sites ; Condie, Poplar River, Boundary Dam, Aberdeen, Beatty, Coteau Creek, Regina South - subcontractor to Tyco Integrated Security (SimplexGrinnell).

This project included the complete electrical systems for this shop / office addition to the existing facility; electrical distribution, lighting, overhead crane, small power, equipment feeds, cable tray, etc. required to give a completely functional building. The project began in the winter of 2016 and will be complete in the spring of 2017.

Included in this project was installation for two 750mcm/3c 15kv Airguard cable and grounding cables to increase the underground substation capacity. As part of the project, included was cable tray systems, and installation of multiple 15kv JBs on multiple levels in the mine. This project was extremely complex because of the aging shaft steel and the extreme weight of the cable down the shaft; all cable was installed from top down using special installation methods; the project was completed without any incidents. This project was managed directly by VALE.
